Session Title: Turning Content into Cash

Date/Time: May 8th, 2015, 11:30a.m.

Moderator:

Ed Klaris, IP Attorney and Senior Media Executive

Panelists:

Tarek E. Fadel, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, FADEL

Greg Fioravanti, Vice President, Business Affairs, Discovery Communications

Peter Oriol, Vice President, Membership Marketing, American Express

Description: This session sets out a framework for how companies with intellectual assets can identify where monetary value lies in their portfolio and how to create and implement strategies to grow revenue. We will address the question every CEO wants answered:  If I invest in digital asset management, what will be my ROI? DAM is a crucial part of the IP lifecycle, but it is merely a part. First Ed Klaris, Principal of KlarisIP,  describes his unique approach to understanding what an IP portfolio is, how to put a value on it, and ways to go about monetizing the portfolio, then two preeminent companies, Discovery Communications and American Express relate how they have leveraged their assets, and software provider FADEL discusses use cases with some of their clients. In the content monetization business, every good DAM system must be accompanied by a good system to track rights.  We will discuss what Discovery Communications and American Express have done to know their rights in content, including the software they use plus the business intelligence tools they rely on and, their strategies for content acquisition and distribution, and how they link their assets to their rights profiles.  We will also discuss rights expression languages and the questions around standardized rights metadata.

Session Title: Asset Rights Clearance – an Important Next Step in the DAM Lifecycle

Date/Time: May 8th, 2015, 1:25 – 1:55p.m.

Speaker: Gregg Guest, Vice President of Product Management, FADEL

Description: The proliferation of digital media content and the increasing complexity of tracking these digital assets across multiple formats, platforms, and geographies create new challenges for licensors and licensees. Many organizations have adopted DAMs to manage the creation and distribution of their digital assets, however the next critical challenge is to protect your digital IP (video, music, etc.), gain visibility on its usage, and further monetize its potential. An important step in that process is Rights Clearance. In this session we will look at how you extend your DAM with an effective Rights Management and Clearance strategy. We will detail how to introduce these processes and systems, demonstrate a Clearance solution, share real-world use cases and detail best practices.
