Session: Digital Transformation in the World of Academic Publishing and Journals: Managing Royalties for Subscription Sales

Session Overview: Academic and scholarly publishers have seen a surge in digitization of content over the past decade. As readership becomes predominantly digital, publishers more and more are transitioning to a subscription-based model, where subscribers pay a recurring fee for access to information libraries featuring academic journals and research articles. To produce and curate high-quality products to engage readership and bolster a large subscription base, publishers must first gain a firm grasp on managing subscription rights and royalties for their products.

In this talk we will give publishers insight into the following topics:

    • Rights management for selling content as a subscription
    • Defining compensation models
    • Determining how to manage subscription products
    • Manage royalty accounting for subscriptions
    • Producing royalty statements factoring in usage

Speaker:

Paul Gore, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Enterprise Systems at FADEL

Paul Gore is responsible for driving product direction and ensuring successful rights and royalty implementations for FADEL’s top tier clients, many of them leaders in their respective industries. Prior to joining the company, Paul was CIO at FADEL client Chronicle Books, and brings decades of publishing industry experience from Hachette Book Group and Time Warner Book Group.
